Q4: What is the difference between SMT assembly and THT assembly?
A4: SMT components differ from THT components in the following respects: a. Components for THT components have longer leads than SMT components; b. THT components require drilling into the bare board, whereas SMT assembly does not, as the SMC or SMD is mounted directly onto the PCB; c. Wave soldering is mainly used for THT assembly, while reflow welding is mainly used for SMT assembly. d. SMT assembly can be automated, whereas THT assembly depends only on manual operation; e. The components used for THT components are heavy, tall, and bulky, while the SMC helps to reduce more space.
